Clayborn is the result of the convergence of natural materials, digital research, and generative artificial intelligence. Unveiled in 2023, the collection represents one of the first industrial applications of generative design to the creation of a finished ceramic surface.
The project draws its inspiration from the clays and stones of the Westerwald, which were digitized and used as the basis for generative models capable of creating new textures—not mere reproductions of nature, but original interpretations of the material. The process, developed in collaboration with Digital Design and AImageLab at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, combines algorithmic generation with human design selection.
The result is a porcelain stoneware surface in which artificial intelligence is directly integrated into the finished product, transforming data, images, and materials into a new ceramic language.
Complementing this research is Millerighe, a three-dimensional evolution of the collection, characterized by linear reliefs that amplify light, shadow, and depth. Clayborn and Millerighe share the same color palette and can be combined to create coordinated, dynamic, and architectural surfaces.
